Situated in the heart of the French town, La Maison Rose is a grade II listed building which was previously owned by a French Judge. Painted in an Old Rose shade, the building locally became popular as La Maison Rose. La Maison Rose houses the Coromandel cafe & bar, a CMYK Bookstore and a designer boutique called Chintz.
The café is named after the Coromandel coast, and inspired by its historical trade in textiles and spices. With both indoor and outdoor seating, this Palladian style building in the French quarter of Pondicherry boasts of a fine garden and stunning wall painting. These murals hand painted in lime wash feature lush palms and exotic flower heads inspired from the largely forgotten Palampore textiles – one of the most sought after Indian textiles that were created and traded from this coast. These Palampores inspired the English Chintz and French Toile Indienne and live in contemporary Kalamkari textiles and provide inspiration for our cozy boutique located on the first floor.
Tamarind, pepper, betel leaves, roses, jasmine, etc give flavor to our Bar Menu which includes drinks like Tamarind Martini, Paan Mojito, Rose Petal Martini and more inspired by the same.
The food at the Coromandel Café, is made to order and packed with flavour, using fresh seasonal local vegetables and spices. The menu has dishes with Franco Tamil and European accents. The all day breakfast and dining features some classic favourites with a Pondy twist such as Eggs Benedict with an all natural hot pink hollandaise and locally smoked sailfish. We serve fresh house made pastas and delicious main course. We have a bakery section where we make all our breads, scrumptious cakes & desserts and the ultimate cheeseboard with genuine artisanal farm cheese sourced from Kodaikanal and Auroville.
